The Purge series are classic horror films, and the first movie is a must-watch for any fan of the genre. This movie has a very dystopian (but creepy-realistic) storyline. It takes place in a future America where, for one night each year, all crime is legal. This includes murder.

12. Stay Alive (2006)

Stay Alive is cheesy as hell, but I still put it up there as one of my favorite horror films. I’m pretty sure I’m one of the very few that still love this film, which is what made sense it never really made it to cult classic status. However, I still highly recommend it.

It’s also VERY loosely based on the true story of the Hungarian Blood Countess. And I mean very VERY loose. If you can get past the bad acting and writing, it’s a fun film to watch.

It follows a group of friends who discover an old video game called “Stay Alive” at a garage sale. They soon realize that the game is more than just a game and that if they die in the game, they die in real life.

13. Us (2019)

Us is also by Jordan Peele. This man is a genius when it comes to horror movies. This film follows a family of four who go on a beach vacation to Santa Cruz. However, their trip takes a turn for the worse when they’re terrorized by a group of doppelgangers.

This movie is full of suspense and will keep you guessing until the very end. It’s also very thought-provoking and will leave you with a lot to think about long after the credits have rolled. If you’re looking for a horror film that’s different from the rest, this is the one for you.

14. The Babysitter (2017)

Starring Samara Weaving, The Babysitter is a hilarious horror comedy that’s perfect for horror movie fans who are looking for something a little different. The film follows a young boy who has a massive crush on his babysitter.

However, he soon realizes that she’s part of a satanic cult that wants to sacrifice him to the devil. He has to figure out how to defeat the Satan worshiping group of teenagers by himself or there will be dire consequences. I thoroughly enjoyed this film, and there’s a second one if you can’t seem to get enough!

15. Escape Room (2017)

Escape Room is a horror action film that ‘s perfect for horror movie fans who are looking for something a little different. The film follows six strangers who are invited to participate in an escape room game.

However, they soon realize that the game is more than just a game and that if they don’t figure out the puzzles in time, they’ll die. What makes this film particularly scary is that you’ll definitely wonder if you’re playing for your life the next escape room you’re in!

16. The Invisible Man (2020)

The Invisible Man puts a modern spin on one of the classic horror movie styles. The film follows a woman who is being terrorized by her abusive ex-boyfriend who has found a way to make himself invisible.

This film is full of suspense and will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. It’s also a very timely film that deals with the issue of domestic violence in a way that’s both thought-provoking and scary.

17. Clue (1985)

Clue is by far one of my favorite films, but it’s very much a dark comedy not a horror. Inspired by the board game, the film follows a group of strangers who are invited to a dinner party at an old mansion.

However, the dinner party takes a turn for the worse when one of the guests is murdered. The remaining guests have to figure out who did it before the killer strikes again. This film is hilarious and will have you laughing from beginning to end. However, it’s also very clever and will keep you guessing.

What is Ready or Not?

I went to see Ready or Not with my sister when it came out in theatres in 2019. This film follows Grace (Samara Weaving) who is marrying into the Le Domas family. They’re weird, eccentric, and rich – and as a successful board game company owning family, they’re a little strange.

On their wedding night, the family tradition is for the newlyweds to play a game with the rest of the family members. The game that they choose is hide and seek, and if Grace can win, she becomes a Le Domas. If she loses, well… you’ll have to watch the film to see what happens!

I don’t want to spoil it!

Ready or Not is an excellent film that’s full of suspense, mystery, and horror. It’s one of those films that’s perfect for a night in with some friends. It also stars Adam Brody, Andie MacDowell and Henry Czerny.

Final Thoughts: Movies Like Ready or Not

Ready or Not is easily one of my favorite horror films.

It combines a bit of dark comedy with some good ol’ fashioned slasher fun that keeps you on the edge of your seat. My sister and I saw it in theatres ages ago, and we’ve watched it on several movie-binge occasions simply because it was so good.

My top recommendation if you like this movie is going to be Get Out, which is heavy on the psychological thriller. That said, it’s probably not everyone’s taste. If you’re looking for less scary and more mystery thrill, I’d point you in the direction of Knives Out (another one of my favorites).

All-in-all there are PLENTY of movies to check out if you like Ready or Not.
